Last weekend was yet another very successful weekend for DC Rally, as Ken Block and Travis Pastrana went 1-2 at the 100 Acre Wood Rally in Missouri. Ken lead from the very first stage to convincingly take the win, while Travis battled back to earn second and retain his lead in the two-race old 2007 Rally America National Championship.
The 100 Acre Wood Rally takes place on the back roads outside of Salem the high performance cars blaze through the normally peaceful gravel and dirt roads of the Ozark Mountains as they battle it out on the 100-plus mile course. Last year Ken won his first rally event at 100 Acre Wood, so he was definitely ready this year for a repeat performance.
Day 1 of competition, Friday, was beautiful and Ken took full advantage of the great weather. He had the fastest stage times on the first three stages, and went on to finish the day with a win on the fifth stage. While Ken seemed to be having a great time absolutely owning the S-turned filled roads, Travis slipped back on Day 1, driving conservatively, finishing the day 39.6 seconds back, and setting the stage for a tremendous Saturday comeback.
Day 2, Saturday, brought some rain, which meant wet roads and slick conditions. Travis persevered though, working his way through the intense field to get within seven seconds of Ken! Ken's lead from Day 1 proved to be insurmountable though, taking stage wins three more times behind the wheel of his Subaru WRX STi and earning his first win of '07.
"These are my kind of roads," Ken exclaimed upon winning the event for the second year in a row.
With Travis' win at last month's Sno*Drift (Travis hasn't missed a rally podium for the last year) and Ken's win at last weekend's 100 Acre Wood, DC Rally now owns the top two spots in the 2006 Rally America National Championship standings. The guys now head down south for the Corona Rally Mexico, their first entry into the WRC where they'll face the world's top drivers. Pastrana will officially enter the Production World Rally Championship (P-WRC), and then compete later this year in P-WRC events in Argentina and Great Britain.
