Last weekend Travis Pastrana earned his first win of the 2008 Rally America National Championship season by taking the dominating victory at Oregon Trail!
Oregon Trail is one of the fastest, most technical courses on the circuit, starting out on tarmac before hitting the gravel and weaving its way through Oregon's trees. With such a difficult course, over half of the field was forced to retire, either suffering mechanical troubles, crashing hard, or faltering off of the course. (Even Travis's teammate Ken Block was KO'd after a misleading course note sent him over a steep bank, a situation that was impossible to get out of).
Travis on the other hand looked to be on another level out there, handling the course perfectly. By the end of the first day he was up 14 seconds on the field. By the conclusion of day two he was nearly a minute and a half up. And by the end of the rally, despite a flat tire right at the end, he had bettered the rest of the field by three and a half minutes.
" I just started driving smooth and fast while it seemed everyone around me was hitting trouble, it was a wild event," said Travis. "The roads were just amazing, lots of fun but very challenging."
The win puts Travis right in the 2008 Rally America National Championship hunt, currently sitting in 2nd place just one point out of the top position. And Ken, despite the bad luck in Oregon, is right behind Travis sitting 3rd in the overall standings. For more information on Oregon Trail and the rest of SRT USA's happenings, go to rally.subaru.com.
